Forums Updated July 2020

Post by clintonman »

I just finished updating the forum software. Let me know if you run into any new problems using the forums.

I've been thinking that it would be a good idea to host the original Caligari install files on this website. That would be the tS7.6, tS7.61, tS7.61Std, trueServe and the manual pages/videos installers. Also included would be links to the Unofficial Updates and Modelspace Legacy website.

Lock it so that nobody can post to it.
Like the Unofficial Updates are as an example.

I see. The links I'm proposing would not be a part of the forums, but on a web page, so in that sense they will be automatically locked.
I also want to add links to other sites of interest like the Caligari forums archive.

I'm in communication with Saul and the current theory is that he is accessing the forums via www.united3dartists.com. He will try with just united3dartists.com without the "www".

I hacked the header files to add a "United 3D Artists Website" link for the upcoming web site "home" page. The link shows at the center top (more or less) of each image.

Feedback and critics welcome.

Next I'll throw together a dummy page with links to show the content of the home page.

How about changing the link "United 3d Artists Website" to "Forum" that links to the Board index and make the "United3dArtists image" link to the Home page?

I added a rough starting page.

https://united3dartists.com/testindex.html

Just some bare links to get an idea of what's needed. The final version will have full descriptions to go with each link and some sections may have their own page.

Caligari download links are now active.

Mostly I want to keep the changes to the forums as small as possible to make the updates easier and the image link disappears on small screen sizes so the quick links menu would also need to be changed.

Getting a 404 error for the trueSpace7.6 download link:
trueSpace7.6
This is the previous release of trueSpace, prior to tS7.61 being released on May 22nd 2009, provided for legacy compatibility with previous scripts, scenes and plug-ins. Most importantly, please note that V-Ray users will need to use this version, as V-Ray for trueSpace is not compatible with trueSpace7.61. This version will not load trueSpace7.61 scenes. Please use the manual and videos from the trueSpace7.61 section.

There is a statement below (from Caligari) that says VRay won't work with 7.61 however the second VRay file did fix that. It just was never deployed to the VRay owners just the Developers and Beta testers.

There is major glass bug that was never fixed in the second version of VRay and 7.61.

The first version of VRay and trueSpace 7.60 does not have a Glass bug.

Thought Prodigy had a workaround for the Glass bug.
Do you know where that info is?

I found this thread talking about vray 1.53 for tS7.6
It looks like Tiles had some kind of workaround.

Here is one from Prodigy
viewtopic.php?p=33621#p33621
I downloaded his test scene, it is a tS761 RsScn.
The lights are an important part for making the glass look good.
I am guessing that the Glass bug has a glowing affect.
From what I can surmise from the post(s), it looks like both vray versions have the glass bug.

I'll add to this post as I find information.
Here is a note from Prodigy back then.

VRay Glass Bug
Jason: Not documented but i can explain you now how this workaround works..
Take the mirror effect to 10 and then apply a transparency value... something like 0.1 will do the trick.
I found this way to make glass trying to find a solution for the glass bug-.
Here is a render test between the vray glass and the fake glass and the scene for tests..
Pros: Eliminates the glow from the vray glass bug..
fake glass keep the alpha channel.. so that's very important for post process..
Do the job especially for windows etc..
Cons: transmission is not supported.
Augusto

Then we have this one:

Glass Bug

Ok ok ok!! you don't know how happy i am in this moment...:D
Im happy cos i found the Workaround of the year without any doubt...
IM SURE! almost any VRAY user will gonna feel the same emotion :)
OK what's the deal??

Vray 1.53 with GI and Transmision Bug SOLVED!
17051
Ok guys... i really thought there will be more people telling why a fix of this is soo important..
And a workaround is not a solution.. but at least is something.. I used 7.11 many time with vray 1.0 to make realistic glass.. and that to be honest was very frustrating..
For me make realistic glass is on the first page.. and in 2009 this is not very acceptable..

So, what ever..

Here is the solution.. :)
Set your GI first bount on 0.5
That simple??
Yup.... That simple..
By the way. if someone ask why my pictures has the same intensity than the other and with a first bounce in 0.5 the GI is the half of brightness, is cos im using my advanced ambient light with intensity..
To be honest, was very "frustrating" to see no one has request my plugin...
But at least.. 1 person has support it buying from Turbosquid..
That's was a lot for me..
What ever.. Merry christmas... and enjoy making glass.. ;)
1.0 is default setting.. and is OK.. that is not wrong.. is a vray bug not a problem with the default setting..

I see this too. Searching phpbb and it is a known problem. I'll need to manually edit the files to fix it. I'll update here with the results.

Edit:
Problem is fixed. :) 3 source files altered.

Fixed another bug in the release. The password reset page had a bug that gave a 500 error when it didn't like the password given to it. This latest release isn't their best work, this bug has been known to them since January. :x
