SenFlores - Goldfish

Post by Draise »

Here is Mr. Goldfish! A new model, kinda spur of the moment from my art director.. but hey!

So my ideas are based on Pinochio's Cleo fish, so far off to an ok start! Tho I am getting distracted with other things really easily! Argh!

!
*note* the shadow filter and maps and samples are really low as I am working from home today and my integrated card ain't so amazing.... (tho not bad for an integrated card!)

Stay focused, put the head phones on and play some music and forget about what is going on around you.
I find this helps me and I have also found that certain music types inspire me more.
You have a good start to the model.
Is this to be a male or female goldfish.
If female then I think the lips should be bigger, if male the mouth should be a little wider.

Some progress! Thanks on the advice! Being in Colombia means a lot of people, socializing, girls, and many fun times! lol, working at home is very difficult!

Oh.. and I have no idea if it's a girl of boy. I guess I will change it once we have the scripts written.

But here is some progress. I need the opinion of my art director to see if he likes it. So I will start the butterfly and possibly the body of the girl.

Cheers!

More progress. I think I will round the head out a bit and leave it at that and start the other preliminary objects. I can only go so far before I run it through my art director to see if he likes it. After that, I can start UV's and making cool textures!

I've done his UV's. Morrow I'm going to teach an illustrator how to use Mudbox or 3Dcoat to paint textures. Maybe even using sculptris.

I love painting textures, but I am running out of time!!.. and I need her strengths.

I have the eyes on a seperate UV, that's why they look different!

This is my latest rig test. I will post something about how I'm making the rig.. but this time I'm trying to use Softimage's integrated cloth (not as good as Syflex) to get the fins to look good. It is slower and clunkier, but you can do it to rigged objects, also it has a softbody function that may come in handy later.
The ropes are tightening and I am now starting to get stressed! Rigging takes forever!!

Another little animation to test it further. I dulled the mesh sensitivity down, took off self collision cause the computation was annoying. Not practical for animation, added some shapes, and worked on storing the tail chain information in Softimage. Looking good! Softimage is powerful once you figure it out, kinda like Blender, but less complicated.

The Dorsal fin movement is fantastic.
If you can free up some time I would get some movement into the Pectoral fins too. Visually they remind me of a shark.
Softimage sounds great, now if I could only find $3000!...

Ah yes, the fins.... I rigged them to bone chains instead of cloth. Only the floppy back part of the fin has a cloth attribute, but the rest are actually animatable. I didn't animate them cause I was just testing the cloth. I will once I get into production. I am still waiting for a script, or shot script to start an animatic. But i need to sit with the director....

Yeah.. Softimage is a bit pricey. It is resonably good despite the price tho, and you'll find many aspects of Maya and 3Dmax are features orginally found in Softimage (thus you can conclude softimage has the same capabilities of the latter). You'll also find a good integration of MentalRay. Only downside is it's plugin database, unlike Maya or 3dmax, is limited. BUT It's a good all round package, tho I do like varying my toolset for learning and creativities sake! (and it can be cheaper and funner).

Peace! Back to rigging! the bird today!

I have finally spent most of the day working on finetuning the fish rigs, learning some ICE programing in Softimage to make some spring based mesh reactions to simulate water without particles (whimsicle idea that I decided to do). And last but not least, started rigging the bird. Each time I'm squaring my knowledge about rigging and the use of Softimage. I spend half my day studying and experimenting. But I need to step up the pace....Rigging is the hardest in 3D for me....

Oh, and there is a problem with the grass texture. Gotta fix that..
