I always seem to fall back to older versions of Truespace because I love them immensely. The modeling tools and features are definately geared towards casual model making hobbyists. I encourage new model makers to give the modelside of TS 7.6x a whirl.

Re: Just wanted to say that Truespace 6.6 is alive....
Me too. I just can't seem to get a handle on the 7.6 workside no matter how much I play around with it. I mostly use the newer exporter options when needed. Interestingly, on another note I found an older version of DAZ called Hexagon 2.5. It seems quite easy to use just like older versions of Caligari Truespace. Hex, is very cool, but sadly does not support doing any kind of animation. Thank God for easy to use modeling software like these products. Ironically, many people mistakenly view easy to use with it must not be very good, but they're all mistaken sadly. Cheers, Leroy.

I like Hexagon too. It is a modeler and not a full service program like TS. Daz (the company) has Carrara which is an all-in-one program like TS.
Daz, Hexagon, and Bryce are currently free ( http://www.daz3d.com/shop/products/ ).
Yeah, TS is great. I'm building my "beyond TS" tool kit but I'll still use TS some while it works.
Unfortunately there is no legal way to get the old versions or TS 7.x with model side as only the workspace only version was released free.

Re: Just wanted to say that Truespace 6.6 is alive....
Yep.
We are about to start 2013 and trueSpace is still alive
Here is a couple of renders of an architecture competition we won. Thanks to tS's fast interface, and powered with all the creative plugins from the community, I could model and render this building in 3 days.
Seriously, I don't feel the need to move to an other software as long as trueSpace do the job that way !
My wishes for 2013 ? Even more plugins for Modeler/6.6 !

Emmanuel, you always prove to us that talent is more important then software if given the right tools.
Congratulations on the competition entry!
trueSpace is a fantastic piece of code and in the right hands can do remarkable things.

I hear you Emmanuel! Yes, BNG, 6.6 is still alive. <PS sorry if I keep adding: 'le' to the end of your name! It's just habit; we have another good friend named Emanuelle in France

At one point I tried making plugins for 6.6 but got bummed because I couldn't figure it out and as usual, I couldn't get my questions answered.
Guess I would need to grunt through it.

I use the modelside of TS for my job. About 90% of the work i do since TS 3.0
Before TS i had a 3d software That i did myself (1980).
And before i used... Computer (1974)

Re: Just wanted to say that Truespace 6.6 is alive....
When Microsoft first bought Caligari, the complete tS7.6 with model side was released for free. I grabbed a download right away. Later on the version with model side removed was released.Finis wrote:I like Hexagon too. It is a modeler and not a full service program like TS. I still just use tS6.6 because I never do any animation, just modeling, have only dabbled a little with texturing so all that new stuff in the workspace side doesn't look to be too useful to me.

Re: Just wanted to say that Truespace 6.6 is alive....
Truespace was one of the best modeling softwares ever in terms of efficiency. Actually my whole plan is to use 7.6 (6.6 glorified) and Blender combo for all my work, like animation and such. Really when it comes to quickly modeling things truespace I feel has an edge over blender, but not my much. The reason is that Truespace has good shelling tools than can come in handy for buildings and such. I can build decent looking house quicker with TS than Blender.
However naturally blender is more precise... As you can use the coordinates to manipulate your objects. But, isn't there a plugin that to fixes that so you can do the same thing with truespace?
I've actually made good scope using TS 6.6 (back when I bought it) that had natural magnifying effects... Using shelling and painting the glass refraction on with high refraction one some of the faces. (Don't think it work like a telescope of course, but the way the light refracted inside made it look like one).
BTW Bryce and hex aren't free they can be bought cheaply though (20$).

Re: Just wanted to say that Truespace 6.6 is alive....
Daz Studio, Bryce, and Hexagon were free for time recently. Lots of people here got them from that offer. If they are just $20 now that's close enough to free.
Soon after Caligari became a wholly owned subsidiary of MS the TS 7.6 with model side was free. Later the workspace version was free and, I think, the other one was no longer available, legally anyway. Distributing the model side with the Lightworks renderer would be a licensing problem if MS was no longer paying Lightworks for it.

Re: Just wanted to say that Truespace 6.6 is alive....
BNG, not sure what you mean.
Do you mean the LightWorks renderer thing? Current legal owners of TS with LW are ok. Our copies are ours.
Caligari didn't create the model side renderer. They had some kind of deal with Lightworks to use their product. It is unlikely the deal, inherited by MS, includes distribution of infinite copies with no pay for Lightworks. If so, then Caligari-MS would have to stop giving away TS with LW when they ran out of licenses or whatever. MS certainly wouldn't pay LW so they could give us software they discontinued. Maybe there is no LW license problem and there are still legal with-LW-model-side downloads. Either way legit owners are still legit of course.
