When I first used Vue infinite on 16 Gig of ram I called the support a d asked them
if something was wrong and why Vue didnt use more then 3 Gig of ram........
I found out later that Vue was so low at memory consumption that I need rely big
files to tip it into 8 ram and more....
16 Gig of ram for Vue is very much ! It runs like butter ! ;)
Or how we say it here in German: " das fetzt "

Hi i was wondering which would be the better buy. Ati or nvidia profi cards
The firepro ati looks like at can do the job from the benchmarks ,but so
can the nvidia. the nvidia cards are a bit heavy on the price .
So which do you think is a better buy?

when i said to do the job i mean animation, efects, lights ,fire, thousends of ojects in the scene
particles and so on.

Just thought id check before i order one of these babys

Re: Ati vs Nvidia

Ok i have just read a report in 3d world .they tested 3firepro against 3 nvidia
the ati7800 came out on top mainly because of the price but it also
matched the perfomace of the others.

For my purposes I pick a card that's reasonably priced, has enough video ram and has CUDA support.

Right now, I'm running a low budget NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240 with 1gb memory and CUDA support.

I think the GTS250 is the equivalent. The GTS 240 is sold with pre-packaged systems, I think - mine was a Dell Computer.

(CUDA because 3D coat supports it and makes it much faster)

I run Lightwave 10, Carrara 8 Pro, Adobe Create Suite Extended with no problems.

I have the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240 in my other pc ,its not powerfull enough
for what i want to do ,thats why i got myself this pc i7 64bit, Ati radion HD 5870 2gig, 8gig ram.
This is still not good enough thats is why i put in 16gig ram and i think
the Ati firepro v7800 2 gig should be ok.
If this does not do the job ill look again may be the nvidia pny

Not powerful enough? Are you doing CAD?

I run a 64bit I7 920, 8gig ram. So far, so good with what I want to do. (with GTS240 nvivida 1gb GPU)

What i am trying to do is build up a fairly powerfull workstation. i dont do gaming
only 3d and internet ,
i have just ordered 4 new apps modo501 included.
tested cinima 4d max maya lightwave ,dont like them.
so i stick with vue infinat ,z brush, 3d coat, carrera pro 7 poser 2010 pro
daz 4, truespace , i clone4 pro crazy talk6 pro,photo shop.
I think with these apps it is possible to turn out some awsome work,
I know it is also possible with free apps. but i am a software and hardware junky.

Pugman your toolset is pretty much the same as mine ! I added silo and my most important modeler
Moi 3d to that set.....
(you probably dont need silo because of modo !Im pretty much set for anything to come....
Dont make the same mistake i made for some time in my life dont kill the performance of your computer with
installing tons of other junk.......
that just as bad as a virus .... tons and tons of autostarts and up to your knuckles witha filled registry !

i plan to upgrade my PC too :D
but i spent money for other things recently like new cellphone, new LCD screen and some outfit. At least i have the LCD, so far i had quite small flat CRT :))

in my wishlist:
Phenom II (x4 or x6 if possible, now i have Phenom I)
maybe more ram (now 4gigs, but its sufficient so far)
new graphics card (ati 4870 to some similar but newer series)

i hope i will get some evening job to make money for PC at least. Usually I throw lot of money into my car.
