Your are on fast forward James! Good looking design/layout. That would be a nice place to dock (that's parking a boat right?) your boat, rent a cottage to stay and see the sights for a while, scenic bike path, convenient shopping, and probably a great view from that restaurant.

My uncle had boats. He would fish at Elephant Butte, on the Rio Grande, and had a large one he would take fishing in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. I remember watching satellites moving in the night sky from his boats.

Yup, this is your basic time/share trap - er I mean investment area. :) I'm concentrating on the marina area for the street level view. The outer areas I will probably add as 2D eye candy later on to get the full environment view.

In Carrara 8 Pro:

Started the terrain editing - the basic area - Marina. Will show how I add areas for replicated objects, distritbution maps and textures as I go.

This is the basic "plain jane" map that shows the area to be developed.

Last image for today. The view that the developers want to exploit for their Marina Project. Looking out on an ancient volcanic plateaus, where fishing is superb and boating is shielded from the elements.

Since this is a street scene and I didn't think about a street view from one perspective I used Carrara 8.5 Pro's beta Spherical Camera.

It was a 8000 x 6000 render so it took quite awhile. :)

Obviously, I can't put the spherica render here, so I picked three shots and did a screen capture.

The idea of a spherica camera view is to set the sperical camera at a certain height, let's say 5-6 feet, then render at high dimensional resolution so it can be used as a 360 degree spherical view when used as a view in a different camera in a new scene that pans arounds the scene. This means that the geometry is minimal so faster renders and lighting can be reduced, etc. One can also place new 3D objects on the ground or wherever and even animate them so they walk around the entire scene.

The next steps is to model stuff to put in the scene - vendor carts, tables, chairs, flags, etc.

Those are really stylish chairs. Designer points for you.

Just a note: contestants don't have to model everything for this challenge. You can model new stuff, use your old stuff, and use free or purchased resources. That simulates pro's use of such things.

Given the cool style I'm glad you are modeling that furniture.

Thanks for the compliment!

I wanted something original since the marina scene is somewhat unusual. I thought about the restaurant and decided that it wouldn't be visible from the street view, so keeping it an open air dining area with a full 360 view.

I am keeping the dining area concept with the addition of vender carts one often sees in cities and resort areas. Goes along with the concept that the weather along large bodies of water is not always the best.

The whole of the marina is a 'fusgangerzone' (walkng area) with exception of the bike entries on each side and a roadway access for delivery. The idea was to make it an area where people could walk, relax and sip on their favorite beverage or eat their favorite foods with vendors that have flexibility via contract and service. (pretending this is what the person wanted designed in the concept.) :)
