Hi.
I've been working on a spaceship (in another thread)
I've been thinking a lot about backgrounds. Here are some solutions I've played with lately.
First of all I recommend this tutorial for Gimp users.

Here are some quick planets that I can use on billboards in the background. The reddish one needs an atmosphere & shadow still. The originals are much higher resolution. Interestingly, high resolution images of rock surfaces work superbly as the textures. These can be easily found for free on line.
Next is a repeating texture (again much scaled down in resolution). This was made in Gimp too. I recommend this tutorial. My Image doesn't do it justice.

This can be mapped on a huge inverted hemisphere behind your subject.
I'm really interested in any of your solutions!

That's really cool! I'll have a look at the tutorials.

Actually, these are perfect. I wish I could get these at higher resolution. I should go look in my kitchen with my camera.MikomDude wrote:That's really cool! I'll have a look at the tutorials.
