Subdivision Surfaces

Post by tsbase »

I installed Truespace. Very nice software. I've doubts about modeling - initially Subdivision Surfaces. -

To toggle the simplified wireframe. Show Simplified Subdivision Wireframe. Only the edges corresponding to the hull polygons are displayed.

Is there any tutorial about modelling Subdivision Surfaces ?

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Welcome to the forums @tsbase!

You can see my screen stands are all done with SDS in trueSpace. The great thing of the SDS in the WS of truespace 7.61 is localized subdivision levels. Not even Maya has this easily (well not the 2015 version).

Fantastic. This feature looks promising.

I'm used to with softimage. Some tools are similar.

Beautiful! You really took the hang of it really quick! Good work, and awesome work. =)

How did you find the modeling tools of WS?

Thank
I used the tools: Dynamic Sweep, Chanfer Tool, Select Face Loop, Add Loop, Scale, SSD.
To create Array: Axis Tool, Reset Axis, Normalize Location.

note:
For SDS work perfectly, you have to edit, delete and add edges manually. Is a normal process.

On version TS 7.6 Modelside ed V1.0, the tool Bevel - Insert - Extrude -
Library Browser > Objects ts7.6 update objects -

I have a doubt.

Extrude, the edges juctions ,with the tool SDS, create a distortion in the mesh.

I've to edit the mesh. Tool:add edges.

Compared the two topologies.

Is there any way to create an option to edit these the edges juctions?

I use the loop tool to do it manually in the WS side - with 6 loops where I want them.

Another is to select all the edges and use the Bevel tool in the WS and do what you did, fix the corners with the Add Edge tool. A little tedious I know..... You can bevel edges natively with the WS bevel.

Another way of doing it easily is... select the VERTICE's (corners) where you want to have beveled. Bevel the vertices. Now, select all connected adjacent faces. Quadrify the faces. When you bevel a vertice, it puts out a V shape over each face - so when you quadrify the face, it will make the edge. Not right angles, but it's easy enough.

1. Select vertices
2. (Inset) Bevel vertices
3. Select all faces neighboring the vertices
4. Quadrify
5. Subdivide
6. Optionally place new edge loops in center with Edge Snap turned on

The modeling tools are simple and good. I have to study displacement map + Subdivision Surfaces.
