U3DA Challenge Replicate/Design A Ship - Mikoms WIP Thread

Post by MikomDude »

Didn't have anything to do this morning, waiting for another model aircraft to arrive in the mail, so I thought I'd make start on this challenge.

A concept:

This is not 100% the way it's going to look but I always draw up these rough sketches to help my brain remember what design I'm working on.

Thanks! :D

Ok, here is an update on the ship. Due to me getting a bit "exited" with this design I might have gotten a little carried away. I've modeled pretty much the whole ship now, exterior and interior. All that remains now is details, more details and possibly some more ideas that pop into my head while modeling.

Front, cockpit. Middle, crews quarters for a crew of 10. Middle to rear, living area with kitchen and stuff + staircase down to the engine room and cargo bay. Rear, cargo bay + engines + rear observation dome.

Also due to the high levels of detail I won't be able to keep to the set poly-limit of the challenge so in the case of this ship, I might have to leave it out of the challenge.

An interior compartment too!

Hehe, thanks! :)

Here is another update, a scene I'm working on. Fairly sure I'm pretty much screwed for the competition though. This will be a render-only model.

And here is the final product:

I'm quite happy with it but I will probably have to make something else for the challenge.

That's really cool actually. Sad to hear that TS was screwing things up.

Thanks! And yeah, it always gets me down when that happens. I just wish these 3D programs could operate with much higher poly-counts... without starting to lag or messing with the materials...

Maybe importing it into another program that is more recent may fix that..

No, that would mean using the model-side and that's where the problem lies...

If only the workspace side had better importing/exporting then maybe that would work but that's just wishful thinking.

I agree... There is a good OBJ export plugin for WS somewhere, let me find it for you. I have exported models at... maybe 40000 polygons before. It took a while, and i had to make sure the geometry was impeccable, but it was ok. Importing through WS still had trouble tho, with some strange triangulation........ But when MS side fails me, I use the export plugin for the WS side. Froo developed this one.

I think the LUUV plugin is included with truespace 7.6. You just gotta look in the tsx folder. ;) Is that the one you were talking about?
