Hi, Newbie with one BIG question.

Post by Kurt »

Hi, I'm Kurt. I'm a total newcomer to 3d software, and I mean TOTAL. Haven't the slightest idea how it works or how to use it....

However, against all logic, I've downloaded and installed TrueSpace 7.61 Beta8, and before I fry my brain over the next months trying to learn it, I have one question.

Can animations created in this App be saved as dv, or some other appropriate format so that I can import them into my iMovie app on my eMac?

That's it.

Thanks,

Kurt.

Hi kurt!

Welcome aboard! :bananacheers:

Yes, you can make any kind of movies with Truespace.
For your question about DV format:

Ok, first you need to understand that as Divx is an Avi compressed using a DivX codec, DV's are Avi compressed with a DV codec :P Easy Right??

Ok, you have 2 ways..

1) Save your truespace animation in any format (seq. Images or Avi) and then in after effects or Premiere convert it to DV format.

2) Download this codec LINK HERE
*And try also this one seems is better
Install it and inside truespace, save your animation as AVI and select DV codec for your animation. So basically Truespace will save your avi directly in a DV format..
Also with the codec you can use any other software like VirtuaDub etc..

Take care and keep in touch!!

HOHO!! after several tries seems DV format ONLY and i mean ONLY (with bold letters) works if you use 720x480 or 720x576 NO OTHER..

So remember to set those resolutions before click on Render 8-)

Well, Prodigy, when I said, "That's all I need to know", I actually meant I need to know everything else. :) I've been playing with the App and I kinda feel like I've just astral-travelled to another planet!!

Woo boy this is gonna be a steeeep learning curve! But too much fun to be had, to not try!

Thanks for the kind offer of rescues, Prodigy. I'm gonna need them!

One other question, although it's about 12 months premature. Is it possible, in the free program I now have, to create animated "particle" effects? You know, like animated smoke and glows and like that?

Thanks,
Kurt

LOL - That's a question with a "Yes and No" answer. All really depends on what you want to achieve and how you want to achieve it!

Here's my tip for a newbie - try to ask questions that are as specific as possible as this allows us to offer you specific answers. With tS there is almost always more than one way to do anything!

Hi Kurt,

Well yes! Truespace inside the modelside has a particle emitter..with that you can create many things from explosions to Grass :) (btw, i think i need to move my tutorial about how create grass with particles 8-) )

Also, there's a EXCELLENT plugin called PPFX. Link here
Im strongly recommend you to test it! is easy, and fun!

Thanks, Prodigy. :)

I've downloaded every tutorial I can find and still finding more. Got that PPFX and I'll get your "grass" one too.

Sooooo much to learn...!

Point taken, Wizard. Thanks. :)

I want to be able to create a moving, glowing asteroid that moves through black space while shedding gases and bits of itself. That's for starters.

I also want to be able to show smoke rising from small isolated fires in a pre-filmed shot of a cityscape. Think "post-apocalypse movie". If I can create the scene with just the fires/smoke, convert it to dv, import it into iMovie, than "combine" the shot with real footage of a city, I'll have what I want.

Cheers.

Hello again, Prodigy.

I got PPFX and plugged it in and it does everything I wanted! Great! Thanks!

Only thing is, there seem to be two versions in the file. One version has a Help file, with tutorials, but the other does not.

Do you know if there are any Manuals or other tutorials for Primary Particles anywhere?

Thanks,
Kurt
