hey folks. Check this out. May be a good time to get a couple of these.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824009266"
I was going to get a couple but both cars needed repairs; mine was $2500;
my wife's was $600. Her car is now on its 'last wheels'. We hope it will last
another year or so. That's the long and short of it.
Anyway, hope you can get in on that deal.

Re: 23 Inch Acer Monitor at Newegg: $109.00
I have a question. I am debating back and forth whether to actually get two of these.
Since I had to shell out $3100.00 in car repairs I kinda feel like, well, what difference is
$220 gonna make anyway? I have a corner desk with two heavy CRTs. These CRTs are causing
(I think) the desk to 'bow' due to their weight. So, they don't quite sit level; their top corners
touch. It would be nice to put some lightweight monitors on that desk and save these CRTs for
another computer. I have one disassembled which I would still like to try to repair but no time
so far.
What do you think? Is it worth it? Or should I just smile while paying off
this car repair? (Yeah I am a bit pissed and will be for awhile I suspect... BAH HUMBUG!!!

Thanks guys. I think I will do it. It would be cool to have the other monitors and system in a different room
for other work. We'll see.

Froo, only you know your finances and whether you can afford it. If you can afford 1 or 2 of these and it will make you happy then get them.
If not then use poor people's methods. Dig in your big pile of junk (which you have of course) to find some old lumber. If none ask friends and neighbors, search trash dumpsters, and ask at construction sites for wood. Discarded furniture (dumpster diving again!) is a good source for wood and screws and bolts. Use that to strengthen the desk and hold the heavy monitors. No wait, surely you can afford to buy stuff to improve the desk.

Finis, I have thought about that. A couple 2 x 4's and some long wood screws would do the trick. Maybe construct a T-Bar: the vertical portion pushes up onto the horizontal part. I may have to do that even if I remove the CRTs. I will take them off and see. I am pretty sure the top of the desk will not flex back to a horizontal position.

Well these sold out so I got a couple others which are LED-backlit so they should be better.
If I can just clean out the utility room (where my wife will be painting WooHoo!) I can hopefully
get the other 'dead' computer revived and use the dual CRT monitors in there. Should be cool.

Got the monitors hooked up. Moved the 19 inch CRTs to the workshop.
Now I can have trueSpace on one monitor and Visual Studio on the other for
coding, if I want. Cool!
Now if I can just get the LAN cable run down here I can get FrooServe up
and running again.

Re: 23 Inch Acer Monitor at Newegg: $109.00
didnt try to find out... but i bet this acer is a TN LCD panel, which sucks for graphics. Different colors from different angels. Even when you see solid color, it appears lligher on the upper part and darker at the bottom of the screen. Its just cheap, maybe good for gaming. There is a reason why its cheap and why other LCD screens are more expensive. Buy some IPS or PVA panel screen.
PS: i bought myself still quite cheap but very good LCD, its E-IPS technology (not e-IPS !) from LG, at it was worth 4300 CZK = 220USD. That is not expensive too, but the image quality is very good. Also buying C-PVA is a very good deal, as it is still good PVA but cheaper to make version.

I bought an ASUS (not Acer). Looks good so far. We'll see how graphics pan out.

My previous 22" was an ASUS, it was pretty good. Now I have a 27" Fujitsu, it was quite cheap and works very well.froo wrote:I bought an ASUS (not Acer). Looks good so far. We'll see how graphics pan out.
