i did 3 images 3840 x 2160 :
- hdri with 200 ligth (20 minutes)
- volumetric with 15 light (40 minutes)
- mask of distance for the dof in post production (2 minutes)
Then i combine the result. The images are on differents Layers and i need about 1 hour for the final illustration.

Nice render. Although I must say that brick wall looks a tad rusty...

@ Mikomdude :
You're right. It is done with pictures of rust. I wanted to make it to contrast with the gold. I did not like real bricks.

This has a feeling or mood of fantasy with a little romance too. Interesting that the window has no glass or shutters or bars. It is best that way. That such a valuable thing is placed near an unprotected opening instead of in a vault shows the power of its owner. That no glass or shutters are needed implies a fantasy world with perfect weather or magical control of it. The touch of romance probably comes from the misty background.

I think the mortar between the bricks is too precise. Maybe the bricks are too. Bump maps won't fix that. The edges need some detail too. Displacement map if you can. The cup is centered on its platter or base. I'd put it off center. It would probably distract from the cup but you can use the advanced volumetric shader, TS model side, to make smoky wisps and other less uniform fog.

@ Finis:
I love your analysis.
I'll wait a bit for the bricks. Precipitation is a bad counselor.
I'll take a break and I would see better what I should do.
Thank
