Anything Intel. I built a Core 5 2500K and a Core 7 3770 and both run fast.

AMD or Intel CPU?

I am a big fan of ASUS mobos so I would suggest looking there.

Kingston HyperX Gaming memory. It costs a little more but it comes with a heat sink. I have been using Asus mother boards and have had not problems.

Hey Ralph.
Any beep codes? Nothing on the screen at all? Do you have another video card you can drop in to ensure
your motherboard is still alive?

Did you update the Bios.

Get a I7-3770 or I7-3770K.

What type of monitor are you using.

Another thought is to make sure the rails from the power supply are sufficient to power the card....

ATI Radeon™ HD5870 System Requirements:

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended

Hi shell1850 ,no i have not updated the bios
i7 it will be .i have this on my power pc .i have 2 full hdmi flat moniters widescreen and a 17 inch flatscreen normal,
i am going to rebuild the second pc i7 , asus mother board p8p67 pro or p6t7ws super computer
power suply 850 w with cable management, i will use my hd 5870 ati card and try to get a second one
and use the crossfire method for them, and finally 24 or 32 gig ram.
I think this should do the job for enything, just have to get the parts bit by bit .

I installed windows 7 on the ssd drive. But when I added regular hard drive, the computer locked up. I updated the bios - website indicated several updates since the Feb update.I reinstalled windows 7 with ssd drive and 500 gb drive. Created partitions on the 2 drives and it worked fine. worked fine.

Building a new computer is fun. The fun part is when components become cheaper and you can add at a cheaper price. Video cards pricing is crazy. The 500 dollar video card today is the 200 dollar video card next year.

My new config :
P8Z77-V board
Cooler master CM690
i7 3770k
Gtx 680 oc
SSD+2 to harddrive
16 gigas ram
Win 7 64b pro
It work very well.
I think to buy a new screen with a resolution of 2560 soon. :)
Speed to render, ligthwork and TS : 6 time more than my old core duo. Lightwork use the 8 thread very well.

This is the pc i use at the moment its powerfull .it has a ssd drive its the c drive but it was way to
small to handle all my 3d software. I am trying to build a better pc than this one.
Marcel yours looks to be a damm good one to.
i get the parts for my new one from ebay that way it keeps the cost down
but i think it will be more expencive than a shop one, but saying that mine will have better parts

This new build will not be as cheap as i intended ,first the powerunit must be a
good one ,the mother board i have but im going to get the asus z77 sabertooth 196 euros
ram is expensive so for now i got 8gig corsair Vengeance i will updat that to 16gig some time
cpu 270 euros i7 ivy bridge works well with the motherboad.
case cool masters cm 690 11 advaned ebay 69 euros new
plus ssd hd and 1tb hd ,cpu cooler,
for now ill use my ati hd 5870 its a good enough card for now i will update this
for 2 newer cards and run them with crossfire.
with this setup without the 2 vidio cards it will be better than my
1500 euro pc wich is what i wanted to achieve.
when i have this finished i will post the full specs and full cost off all parts
Cheers Ralph

Nice. Why can't they rotate the hard drive cabinet so you could slide the drives in without removing cards.

I hope you use 8 gb memory modules so it is easy to upgrade to 32 gb.

I have a 120 gb ssd drive. I am installing many programs on a hard drive. Windows 7 swap file is around 32 gb.

It is a good CPU. When I build computers for others, there are 3 things I worry about. Temperature, Temperature and Temperature. This is fantastic. I will have to find another way to heat my apartment.

I have Kingston HyperX memory. I could overclock my computer. I will try it in Jan.

nice machine
hmm,
eyefinity, just checked it out, very useful for piloting games
although,
I would have never gone with a TB HD unless it's set up as the slave for back up purposes
by the way,
what are you booting the system through?
and is it setup with workstation BIOS? or did you decide to go with the usual?
I have always found that booting through a DOS shell helped immensely when I needed to trouble shoot my system, without having to go through my OS
just some things I found that worked well for me as I have always exercised the right of caution for the purposes of system security without dependency on the OS for everything. Even having software that operated just fine on a separate HD without installing them directly into the Program Files
again,
nice machine,
keep it safe and secure

HI Aszhrae, this pc has 3 hard drives 1 ssd just win 7 pro nothing else , a 250 gig wd with all my software on it
1 tb wd with all my textures vids ,sounds and models i make .also a 2gig external hd for backing everything up.
the system boots from the ssd in 15 to 20 secs .set up normal bios .
I took out the assus matrix because vue did not like it for rendering .now it has my firepro v7800
works like a dream.
