Hey all,
Big shout out to all that have helped me in the past. Thank you.
And I need help again.
I am trying to add a glass object (window) to my latest creation. It's not really important, as I'm not modeling for to make pretty pictures, but to 3D print. But, rendering the scene helps me see if I got it right or not (looks like my reference material).
I have found the Glass material, applied it, and... It renders opaque. Ugh!! The light blue is to be glass, and the white is how the glass rendered.
I have played with all the sliders - Nothing useful came of that.
What am I doing wrong guys?? Thanks in advance.

Are you using the Lightworks Render Engine?
Do you have Raytracing enabled?

Re: Glass - How to??
I;m using whatever comes with 7.6 in 6.6 mode. So, probably not.
What's strange is I have some old 4.0 .scn files. I loaded one up I KNOW has Glass in, and did a quick render - Glass is correct. So, I saved as a .cob, loaded it up into the new scene... Opaque white. Ugh!! It's not a big deal, as it's just for me, while modeling, but still.
Re: Glass - How to??
The Glass material is Opaque until you Render it using Lightworks render engine
Sounds like you want to make part of your object invisible while Modeling it
Try using the Render Options - Invisible
You could also use Layers .

Re: Glass - How to??
Based on the screen shot to render transparent you need to get to the settings like trueBlue said.
Your expanded toolbar is covering up the rendering toolbar buttons, so de-expand the toolbar to see the render toolbar "nub" and expand it.
Now to enable raytracing use the enable ray tracing button or right click the render button to open the options panel. If the glass are separate objects you can also change the object display mode by left clicking on the sphere to open a toolbar and choose transparent. Now you can see through the object without the need to render.

Ah Ha, the Orient Selector
You are able to move the Orient Selector to any separate part of your object
LClick shows|hides the Rotation widget
RClick shows|hides the toolbar where you can select Transparent
Pass Through must be enabled The PhotoRender panel is not bio directional
It is best to use Model's toolbar icons

OK. So it was the ray tracing thing - It was toggles off. Thank you.
Whats interesting is that I do not get the same dialogue boxes and options that you guys are showing above. It was hard to tell if I was in the right spot or not.

Re: Glass - How to??
What is different?
First thing to check would be the Render Engine you are using
Model File Menu
File - Preferences Which one is it set to?

Re: Glass - How to??
The render options panel is from the render button not the ray tracing button. Also everything in the render options panel can be done with the toolbar buttons except for choosing a render engine.Johnnycrash wrote: ↑18 Jun 2023, 17:38I have Lightworks and VirtuaLight. Current set to Lightworks.
That panel that shows all those options from the "Ray Tracing" icon, I don't have that. All I get is a small dialogue box with three options: Reflect, Ray limit, Max Depth.
