Brother, you aint kidding.
I had to dig deep to pay for it.

The water smells ...weird and I'll likely have to plumb in a whole house filter to deal with it.
It's ok when I run it thru both a faucet filter and then a pitcher filter, but
I haven't been brave enough to drink it raw from the tap.
County is coming out Monday for obligatory testing and to verify the old well has been abandoned.

I take 1.5 gallons (5.7 liters) of water in my pack and two canteens. Sometimes 0.5 gallons is Gatorade ( its got 'lectrolytes ). When half is gone I go back. Usually I take a fairly direct path back to my truck and have 0.5 gallons left. So that's about 1 gallon (3.8 liters) during a hike. I have a gallon in the truck too. A typical inferno hike is 4 or 5 hours. Distance varies. The hottest day is usually in June when the air is very dry. No soaked clothes or sweat in my eyes since it evaporates immediately.

Wait for the testing. It could be from new pipes/equipment, be safe, and fade over time. If the water is safe you will get used to smells and tastes and won't notice them any more. Newcomers here can taste the high mineral content of the tap water for a while. Not sure about smell though. That seems worse than a taste.

Still must check Bitkar's adventures. I'd look at Spacekdet's hike/camping photos if he did any ... ah hmmm, ah hmm.

This weekend is the Columbus Day Fly In for hang gliders and paragliders. Looks like it might not be enough pilot's to need me to drive. The organizer thinks there will only be a few. Can't get much footage for my movies with only a few pilots. Not a festive event with just a few people. The organizer says hang gliding is fading out and people are flying paragliders and powered gliders now. Says this site is great for hang gliders but just OK for paragliders so fewer are interested in flying here.

No camping trip this year. Maintenance on the cabin instead.
Finally updated photoblog so might be something new to you there.
I trust you have acquired eclipse glasses and have a suitable photographic location scouted out?

My will has someone assigned to plant them for me...
Seeds acquired. I don't know if they are good condition or not. There were plenty of them in the pods. Collected on Oct. 8, 2023 during the Columbus Day Glider Fly In. They came from this yucca. It is in Dry Canyon at the start of the road to the launch site.

I have seen yucca growing in the soil here in Michigan and I think they left them there during the winter.
They should do just as well or even better in New Jersey.
I would still hedge your bets and plant them in a sunny warm microclimate type location, maybe against a south facing wall.

Reporting back, I gave up and finally turned the furnace on.
I can feel my wallet puckering already.
