Breech Block's Character Models

Post by Breech Block »

Going to try and move away from my normal hard surfacing type models and see if I can get into making some character based stuff. I have tried before on a few occassions but the results have been pretty dire and I have given up. The idea of this thread is to try and make me stick at it a bit more. Anyhow, here is the progress on my first attempt. A little character I'm making for a parody scene I have planned.

ya character modeling is maybe the hardest discipline. I gave up too, once. You have to carry on to master it. Its not a matter of while. Experiences are essential. Character modeling sux, man :D But when you master it, it brings respect usually :)

I get your drift, bitkar. Defo a long-haul project this. I'm gonna start out doing aliens and robots to get a feel for the way things are done; perhaps follow a few on-line tuts. Then hopefully move on to more human like figures. Eventually, way-down-the-road, I'd like to try and produce something good enough to get published in a mag. Aiming high, I know, but it's nice to have a final goal.

Anyhows, here is an update on my first little character:

Ahhh, Monsters Inc, the penny finally drops. I was wondering where my sub-conscious influence was coming from. Now I know.

Anyhow's, here is another small update. Just need to dress him now.

I never saw that movie. I remember the trailer well enough though. That alien dog was brill! Have to see if I can find it on DVD.

Anyhow's, here's how I'm getting on with my characters' boots; yet another everyday thing\object that you think is relativly straight forward and can't possibly be that hard to make until you sit down and start trying to make 'em one day.

Breech Block,
I will have to re-phrase my statement from earlier.
Its not that the character you designed was in the movie but given the design it fits the same designs that were used in the movie.
As for the boots you are very correct on how hard it can be to design something so simple and yet very common.
I have never been one design items and make them look real, I have always had that eye for the cartoon look.
Good job on the boots, are you going to add spurs to the boots?
