trueSpace to Blender Link

Post by clintonman »

MonkeyFromBlender01.jpg

This is the beginning of a new project I've been working on.
The image above shows the monkey primitive from Blender inside trueSpace.
Single press of a button in truespace tells blender to make a monkey and the result is copied back into truespace.

The main goal to start is to transfer a bunch of meshes from tS to Blender so they can have automatic uv values assigned to them and sent back to tS.

Bridge? Well, maybe a tiny bridge. There's only a few things I have in mind to transfer back and forth.

This is the main reason I'm doing this. The UV in tS is small and doesn't use up much of the uv space.
Press a button send to blender and receive uv points that cover the space much better.

Not shown but I also added the blender ico-sphere primitive. All other primitives are already covered by tS.

I found the mesh Extra Objects addon in blender. A some interesting things in there. I added the rounded cube and the teapot meshes. The add-on also includes some curves. Maybe add some of those in the future.

The last concrete things I want to add are the UV unwrap and edge bevel.

Bevel and UV Unwrap are working. Image shows the bevel. After the bevel is done the selection gets a little weird looking.

It went more smoothly than I expected so I think I'll try to get some of the curve objects from Blender too.

CurvesFromBlender.jpg

Alright. Got some curve objects from Blender.
From left to right:
ellipse, polygon(3 sides), polygon(6 sides), star, spiral, sphere spiral and torus spiral

I'm done except have to do a bunch of cleanup and stress testing.

Dude! this is amazing... it would be soo great to have working "bridge" tS to Blender. Like modeling in tS and just putting it in a blender scene and just set the lights in blender and render it.

Very impressive project! Like Bitkar I too am wondering if this could be turned into a bridge between Blender and tS. If even just a 1 way transfer of all (most) scene data from tS into Blender, to utilize its renderer.

Overall, great work though! :bananathumb: :bananathumb: :bananacheers:
