Liquid Hand Soap bottle

I wanted to try a new modeling technique and the bottle seemed like a good test. It has some interesting shape to it but not so complicated that it would take a long time. The idea is to model the basic shape with curves and then use polygon modeling to flesh it in. All the work was done in workspace. I created the curves first and then a plane. I selected all the curves and the plane and took them into point edit mode together. Turn on point snapping and moved the corners of the plane to the curves. I used the static sweep tool to extend the geometry and some quad divide to add more. The idea is that it's easier to visualize the shape of the final model using curves and point edit snapping makes it easy to make the polygon model follow the curve shapes.
I modeled a quarter of the shape and mirrored the other 3 sections and used boolean tools to combine them as one. The pump, tubing and cap were modeled without using the curve network technique. The test render is from Lightwave. The curve network technique worked out well so I think I'll continue to use it.

Right now I'm in the process of trying to figure out the Lightwave renderer and then the labels of the bottle.

Looks very good!

There was an old lightwave tutorial on making a perfume bottle. Don't know if it's on LightWiki or not. It was part of the 9.XX series of tutorials.

Anyway for making the liquid, first made a cut with the knife tool about 3/4 the way from the top for the level of the liquid. Then select some polygons, selected conntected all the way to the inside of the bottom down to the cut line, the delete those polygons. What is left is the inside of the bottle. (The inside was made by using the camera going inside the bottom and extruding a thickness.) There was more to it than that, but can't remember. :)

Anyway just a suggestion on a method for liquid.

An old thread on using Nodes to put a label on a bottle.

Here's another one for label as a decal.

Walk by faith, not by sight.
