when you import a mesh with skeleton in blender and move the bone sometimes the character do not deform very well.... the same also when you set automatic weights in blender when you bind your armature here's a couple of tip.
FIGURE 1: go to modifier and in armature modifier uncheck bone envelopes, you do this because...if you view your bone envelopes sometimes it don't encompass the whole vertex target you after that's why you uncheck it. if this thing don't work go to figure 2.
FIGURE 2: this time you have to manually adjust the weight of the vertices... as u can see in figure 2 the "bone.004" his weight are distributed to the body and wings (the green color is his weight) and the blue is with no weight ( actually the weight of bone.004 goes almost to the left feet, I just fix it that's why no weight in the feet) you will know the bone you are painting just look at the vertex group.
FIGURE 3: here's the fix weight paint
I hope this help regarding weight paint ( you must double check the color of the no weight paint (BLUE= subtracted weight), sometimes the color blue is not even.. sometimes there's light blue it means you have to paint it more to make it blue)
BTW: sometimes this thing don't happen and I don't know why.....

1-import mesh
2-in edit mode delete doubles, and then recalculat outside. these are found under. mesh
3-go to side veiw- 3 on keybord
4-add bones like the image using side and front veiw,no1 on keybord
5-when finished with the bones go to object mode and select both objects press control and p ,and select with atomatic weights.
6-job done happy posing.
