Re: Boat Challenge: Discussion
I decided to model a catamaran and will model using truespace 7.61 in workspace side and render using yafaray.
Here is what I have so far.

Re: Boat Challenge: Discussion
Here's a quick one. Well, several hours. Inspired by the Oculus yacht and some British people suggesting "Boaty McBoatface" to name a new ship. Hexagon modeling, Bryce render, billboard character free samples from VizPeople. No more time for this so better versions of these will probably be my entry. Someone model this one. That would be challenging!

Re: Boat Challenge: Discussion
Well I think I finished my project and decided to call it Froggy goes Sailing. I wanted to render it in yafaray but after many attempts I could not get a
good material and yafaray settings for the water that I really liked, so I exported the model that I did in truespace, workspace side, to Carrara.
Attached are a screen capture and a rendering also done in yafaray and the one I like better done in Carrara.

Re: Boat Challenge: Discussion
Good lookin' boats Draise and FHembree. FHembree, can Draise enter his minecraft boat in the challenge?
The catamaran is cool. I think the best picture would be the carrara one with the sky/clouds and water color from the yafaray one. Carrara version's sky and water are too dark.
Yafaray one's water is a mirror. Less reflection, use Fresnel reflection, and a touch of diffuse color might fix that.

I don't think there is a Fresnel reflection option for the water materail I am using. The yafray shader is rough glass, and there is no Fresnel option.Finis wrote:Good lookin' boats Draise and FHembree. FHembree, can Draise enter his minecraft boat in the challenge?

Water is really acting like a mirror, its just distorted by shape of the waves. In calm water it would be a mirror, wouldn't it?
I see no reason Draise cannot enter the minecraft boat. Its OK with me.
Here is a rear view.

Re: Boat Challenge: Discussion
I adjusted render settings in yafaray and I think I got the setting so that I'm happy with the results. So I'm calling this my finished
rendering and I can then say it was modeled in truespace workspace side and rendered in yafaray which was my original goal.
The only thing that could be added would be some kind of wake since boating should be moving with the sails catching wind but
I don't know any easy way to do that other than modeling the mesh.
