And another update:

Still got the front suspension and the cockpit/interior to build, other than that it's pretty much done though knowing me I'll probably think of something else to put on it. A laser cannon maybe...

Mars 3D - The Mars Explorer

Post by MikomDude » 27 Jun 2012, 02:35

Here it is, finished! It has been a blast working on this thing, adding all sorts of cool stuff to it. I think I've hit the limit though where trueSpace won't let me continue working on it normally but I think it turned out very nice as it is now.

Things I have added since the last WIP:
Realistic suspension, the Explorer can move like a car, tank or forklift with wheels that can each operate independently.

The interior and cockpit, if necessary all colonists fit on board the explorer (though it would be cramped). It is designed so groups of three can take this an explore Mars, even can even spend a few nights on board the Explorer if the mission takes them that far away.

Some bump maps here and there and a couple of textures.

Some additional details

More renders will follow.

nice explorer model but something does not go:
- It is impossible to descend the stairs without safety rail with a combination pressurized,
- The glass in the front seems too fragile to withstand the pressure difference between the vehicle and the Martian atmosphere,
- The wheels do not need fender because it does not rain in March (becase the dust is very thin and the pressure very low, it acts like smoke on Earth.).
These details remind me of a vehicle for the Earth.

Could call your company MarsX
What kind of radiation are you referring to? solar kits radiation? As for the hubs, the are moved with the use of a vehicle and crane, unfortunately I don't think truespace would be able to render another complex object so I decided not to make it. It was on my original concept however. It even had a little garage :D

As for the name, for now it stays Mars 3D. I think MarsX has already been taken.

Draise wrote:Very cool renders you got going there! Your shadows are improving a lot!
Thanks Draise. The shadows however are a standard model-side lighting set up. Modified somewhat.
It is hard to protect colonist from radiation.. Solar radiation is very strong in Mars so it becomes nearly impossible.
