Re: wasp
Wow, that's pretty Pugman!
I'd... um......... put more bump and specular on the wings? Maybe make the eyes shinier with a rainbow sheen to the bump? Claws on the tip of the legs? Rig? Animation?

Well done Pugman!
Here's a photograph of a hornet - not sure if same - but it shows gradation in colors, details in the legs and the wings are very complicated transparent combination of various structures and stuff. Edge flow after your finished would make it pop for sure (maybe a white fuzzy edge to make it stand apart from the background)
Edit: Edge falloff were the words I was look for to describe the ability to pop from a background. Here's some cherries given an edge falloff of white to black to appear they are more 3D and the eye perceive they are viewing farther back than a flat render.

Walk by faith, not by sight.

Re: wasp
The legs need more volume (3 segments). only the end (last segment) is very thin and parrallele with the floor. Not sure if the eyes are real volume or map but they need also a look spherical.
