Sci-fi shuttle

Post by xtetra »

Doing this as part of a project with my step-son. Thought I'd post it for comments/crits.

One thing I need to figure out is the "7" uv decal projects from the top to the bottom of the main body. This would be OK with me except its backwards on the bottom. I guess I'll have to split this bit of geometry in two top and bottom to fix? I know I could UV map but I'm really not good with that yet. (Working on it though...kind of on a deadline to spend too much time on it at the moment.)

I may make a few changes such as larger vertical stabilizers but I am trying to keep the geometry as simple as possible.

Any comments greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks pretty good, xetra :bananathumb:

I see you toned down the color on the 7 decal. It may still be a bit too clean compared to the rest of the ship. It'd likely be even better if it as worked into the texture so that you could weather it to match the hull.

very nice xtetra :)

some geometry suggestions... enlarge the fins some more and slap some on the dorsal side as well, bigger or smaller than the top ones and more slanted, would look way kewl IMHO!

also, you said it was a shuttle, what kind of shuttle? passenger cargo?

if passenger, add some windows, either just face painted black squares or sphere bulges or even pods like protrusions sticking out of the hull that carry the passengers...

if it is cargo, why no plug some cargo containers onto the dorsal and/or ventral fins...

like the look so far, perhaps some attitude adjuster thrusters for manoeuvring in space? landing struts, access hatches and ramps?

just throwing ideas around, see if they work for you, ignore if not ;)

but above all... HAVE FUN! :D

theuns,

Thanks for your comments...some good ideas there which I'll make use of in the near future as I think I'll be working on this design sooner rather than later. I'd like to do a sort of "walk around" anim of it sitting in a hangar bay or something similar.

Right now I'm setting up the path for three of these in an animation which I hope to run over the weekend.

At the moment everything is being done in model space. I'd like to make use of workspace but I found texturing different enough to slow me down and right now I want to crank this out. Perhaps I'll remodel in WS so I can try the real time render engine out.

only fiddled with workspace a little bit but haven't looked into it properly yet, like you, i want to crank out things quickly and don't have a lot of spare time to thoroughly learn new stuff now...

look forward to seeing more ;)

Used a few older models in conjunction with this one for the following shot which is just one part of what will eventually be about a 90 second anim. Not satisfied with it yet so will do some editing of object paths and perhaps add some more ships. Comments appreciated.

hi xtetra, could you perhaps upload it to liveleak.com or send it to me if it isn't too big? I can't access youtubes :(

Is there a cap on file sizes we can post here? The anim is a about 7.5 MB so I could upload it when I get home.
