The Blender folks hopes we will become like them

Blendernation has an article where they hope that we will be able to get the source code opensourced. I don't hold much of hope for that (this is MS we are talking about) but it would be a nice outcome.

This would be a highly unlikely outcome I would say. I would not hold out too much hope for getting open source code, as others have noted you can look at Microsoft's history on open source to make that assessment. You can try and petition Microsoft for it of course, and you never know what might happen.

Tom...
Is LightWorks a permanent fixture inside of truespace 7.6 ? I would hate to be in the middle of a project, only to find that LightWorks is no longer available for render.

If I understand the question, then I think you're safe. There's no time limit on the lightworks license that comes truesapce as far as I know. At least, 6.6 has never stopped working. ;)

That's the way I was hoping to understand it Benji. However, when I brought this to Tom's attention previously, I got a different response. He seemed to imply that it was on a leased contract that could be pulled ? Considering it was a part of the older versions of tS, I was stumped at how it could be pulled as part of a paid packaged product, but was curious about tS 7.6 as a FREE package.

By the way Benji, I use the Aero Blue board layout (as some others may also prefer) and it is set to a white backdrop...so, this makes it hard to read your white font. You may wish to try this board layout instead...I know I prefer it with its lighter backdrop and the easier access to different posts. In any choice, what may seem as an easier to read color font in one board can be a disadvantage in another. I know that the dark font is still a disadvantage on the dark backdrop, but the white on white is much harder to read. ;)
Just a thought ;)

The Lightworks issue would only be related to future distribution. Something that's unlikely to be a problem since trueSpace got canceled. :bananasad:

Any tS you have downloaded will continue to work. Open sourcing it etc is different due to the license with Lightworks. But so long as you preserve you installer, then you will have tS7.6 for as long as you want it. Whether or not you can get the installer again is the issue though.
