About render the glass cup

Post by Hicks »

This is a capture from the TS7.0 course video:

I follow the steps of the video to render, but the outcome is very strange! I don't know where I was wrong?

the difference is the version of Vray.. Caligari in some point of the development changed the sdk for another.. in that jump they added a new bug.. they never fixed that bug..

The problem is the GI, if you unable GI the problem will not be rendered, but the GI looks great so that's the problem.. GI or not GI with glass...

I found 2 workaround to this problem.. neither of 2 are the perfect solution.. IMO the most quickly is use

the fist is use Lightmap instead irradiance and direct Gi computation.. but i don't like the feel and look..

Other is tweak the Raytracing Limit..

and the third and i think is one of the best ways to get DirectGi and irradiance working and a good looking glass is use a white dome over the scene.. a huge one.. that will give you the same GI lighting but without the bug..

I see you are still using 7.51?? i should recommend to jump to the 7.62b 8-)

Glass bug, one of my favorites bugs ever!

Thank you!
You said 'use a white dome over the scene', I don't understand!
Can you post a photo for explaining?

exactly.. create a sphere, a huge one.. paint it with the color you prefer, also a texture if you want.. i strong recommend to set the shader ambient to 1 and diffuse to 0 so you can create a background panoramic or a sky dome independently of the lighting of the scene... but for this particular render, just white is fine.

would like to see your result, tell me if you have problems..

wait a moment, now i see from your screen shot that you are not using GI.. mm weird, if i'm wrong and the problem is on that specific version of vray maybe the problem is on your gi maps or something.. vray 1.5 sucks 1.52 is a bit more pulished..

That`s either a typoe, or he means the inofficial updates from Froo. There is no official 7.62b :)
