Adobe Illustrator AI Path Import problem

Post by lrdsatyr8 »

Ok.... here's the problem... I create a path in Photoshop and save it as an AI file, then when I try to import the path in TS 7.61b, I get these error messages...
[ MsgBox Title: PostScipt Warning ]
This Adobe Illustrator file requires resources with versions
different than those available.
Attempting to use the resources that are available
.
Then...
[ MsgBox Title: Error Parsing File filename.ai ]
Error: Undefined.
Command: XR
Next...
[ MsgBox Title: Error ]
Cannot Load a postscript file.
Is there a work around for this? Would be really nice to be able to do something like this for a project I'm working on. Any help would be appreciated!

What version of photoshop? With Photoshop 7 you can use the pen or line, polygon tool etc and then export as .ai and they load. fine. Somebody might remember the .ai version back then.

Just remember photoshop 7 was the version used with truespace. So the ai file must be of the same vintage. Doubt the export has a backwards compatable ai version in the droplist in 2019. Illustrator might.

Never tried photoshop for ai imports.

I used Illustrator CS 3 back in the day, don't recall of the success rate

If transparency is your goal AI is the way to go.

Depends on what one is trying to do, might be better software to make the transition or a post-production process such as blending or some layering multi-pass layer post process,

If one is trying to make 3D geometry, NURBS or some sort of B-spline generator might be more successful. Blender is free, though I've never used NURBS in it.
Walk by faith, not by sight.

I always use Illustrator for paths and save it as old Illustrator 8 file format. That one works in trueSpace 100%.
