Hole creation causing issues

Post by SnapperTrx »

I have an object I would like to punch a hole through. As you can see in the image below, the area marked in red is where I need said hole to be, but no method of deleting the faces seems to produce a good result. If I Boolean subtract a cube it deletes all the edges along the face. If I try to remove the faces it creates the hole, but I cannot add edges to the floating vertices on either side. I tried connecting the two sides with new edges first, but it doesn't actually create the edges (I assume because they would be embedded in the object). Any advice?

you can click the booleans with right mouse button and uncheck "delete faces" and maybe play with other values too. But i wonder why you cant ad edges - maybe some faces are not valit - has wrong normal vectors, maybe fliping it would help. Or you can upload the .cob and i can try to play with it.

So you're trying to make a tunnel that goes from one side to the other?
I mostly use workspace for modeling, but here's some steps that would work.
step1_2.jpg
step3_4.jpg
1. delete one face
2. polygon bevel the other face then delete the inner face
3. add corner edges to the outline
4. point snap the vertices to the other side
5. weld

There's probably a better way.

It appears that removing the 'Delete Edges' option from the subtraction tool did the trick. Thanks for the help. I only just started modelling again, and I had forgotten all about the additional options on tools such as Subtraction and Union. Really glad I found this community!
