Motion Capture Softwares

Post by Mick »

Do you know any free or cheap markerless (or non-realtime) motion capture software?
I really need one. :)
P.S. Maybe also something like VisualMarker.

Mick,
Hey there I have researched this for a couple of years now and continue to do so as you know things change so quickly and it is almost impossible to keep up.
I have come up empty handed each time.
There was a software called DGeeMe, it had the BVH export and was free but did not work correctly.
The company the produces the software has changed the name of the software and has removed the BVH export function.
I have email them and they are working on putting back in.
Here is a direct link to the new software http://video4coach.com/index.php?option ... =3&lang=en
Maybe if you email them or if enough of us email them about this they will step up the progress.
It never hurts to try.
What animation software are you using?

Hi Mick, have a look at

http://www.ipisoft.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

their iPi Studio™ 30 days Trial Version can be downloaded for free - it reads that it has export funktion, switched off after the testperiod, but I didn't test it myself. The Basic/Standard markerless motion capture system is not really cheap, but they're going to lounge a Express Version for only 1 cam soon (also supporting Microsoft Kinect camera). Maybe that this is more affordable?

Mick,
Here are a few more links for you I believe in sharing the wealth of knowledge.
http://www.innovision-systems.com/Produ ... Traq.html

http://www.simi.com/en/downloads/index ... urn false;

I have VisualMarker and it is a joke to say the least, you are better off doing rotoscoping than to use that software.

I was one of the early beta testers for IPI Desktop and used it for about 6 months.
While it does work there is alot of cleanup to do on the motion file to make it usable.
Also you need some pretty good Cameras.

If you can find a copy of DGeeMe and have a DV Cam then this will work for you.
I use it from time to time to do some basic 2D captures.
There is also ZignTrack for doing facial movements, I have it and it bar far is the best software out there for this type of capture.

THANK YOU ALL for your answers!!! :D
I'll search those links as soon as possible.
Currently I am using trueSpace and Cinema 4D R11.5 and I need a motion capture software to make human movements in an easier way.

P.S. I'm going to e-mail the DGeeMe support straight away. :mrgreen:

Mick,
Let me know if there are any specific motion you need or for that matter what motions you do need and I can either send you my copies or create them here and send them to you.

Hi Mick, you're welcome.

If you didn't already know, it also might be useful to have a look at prerecorded motions, which are available for free in the links below. Aside the Carnegie-Mellon Mocap-Set you can find at cgspeed.com already converted motion-packs in several formats and also bvh-converters & according links if required for your needs.

Carnegie-Mellon Graphics Lab Motion Capture Database (over 2500 human motions)
http://mocap.cs.cmu.edu/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can find some conversions of the database and other links here:
http://sites.google.com/a/cgspeed.com/c ... on-capture" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also remember mrbones offered mocaps for a purchase
http://www.truebones.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

OK.
I've seen those sites but i can't find the way to download the Carnegie-Mellon Mocap-Set.
Also True Bones is really full of mocap data, but at the moment they are to expensive for me. :roll:

Hi, as far as I remember the Carnegie-Mellon Set is not available as a complete Set, but as single topics. At the http:\\mocap.cs.cmu.edu site Scroll down to the blue underlined links (sorry no links here!)

(( There are 2605 trials in 6 categories and 23 subcategories.

Human Interaction
two subjects

Interaction with Environment
playground, uneven terrain, ...

Locomotion
running, walking, ...

Physical Activities & Sports
basketball, dance, ...

Situations & Scenarios
common behaviors and expressions, pantomime, ...

Test Motions
))

and choose what you're interested in, click on the blue underlined textlinks or numbers and then in the charts choose the according format for your needs and download it with a click.

At the cgspeed.com site you can choose out of 4-conversion-format-options. Choose one (click on it) and you get linked to the next page with the download-zip-file-links at the bottom of the page.
