Alpha/Transparency Map with GIMP/Blender

I found this quick one page tuturial on creating a transparency map with GIMP.
This is referenced for use with BLENDER so it goes into loading them into Blender and examples of how they look, but the creations process in GIMP should also be the same if you are going to load it into TS.
