Looks like a satellite photo of some meteor craters but is probably some kind of mining operation.

Hydraulic fracturation fields in the US.

They tried to do the same in the place I live (Ardeche land in South-East of France), but the population's mobilisation against the project could force the companies to step back.
In France, unlike in the US, the deep ground property is not own by the people but by the state, therefore the gas companies couldn't knock at individual doors to get permits to drill : they had to pass through local and national representatives, who were under pressure because of our mobilisation.

I suggest an other game : try to find where I am standing in the photo below :)

Not mining but that's a good guess Mikom.

Not fracking Emmanuel. That has no visible effect on the surface that is different from regular oil activity. Maybe fewer pumps and roads in the long term. I own some rural property in Texas (inherited) and the mineral rights (subsurface resources/volume is mine too) and the considerable tax burden for it. It's the only part of Texas with no oil. Mineral rights are common for rural land in Texas but not all US land owners have mineral rights. Prospectors contact me sometimes wanting to drill exploratory holes. It is heavily forested, wild, and I keep it for sentimental reasons so I don't want it disturbed. If it was a cleared ranch or farm I'd let them drill if the money was good. I recently got an interesting offer though. They'll drill on a neighbor's ranch then get oil from all around. Horiz. drilling I think. They want rights to the oil that would presumably come from my volume (there is none) but would not go onto my surface.

I think Emmanuel is the one holding a sign that says, "I'm holding a sign".

So what is in the satellite photo and where's Waldo? Uh, I mean Emmanuel?

Ah, interesting. This may have suggested demolition engineers some tall buildings pulling down methods...
