Model side has a Shell tool. I forget where it is in the default icon layout, but mine is in with the Boolean tools. It determines how often the scene is synchronized across the Bridge between Model and Workspace.
No effect in Model if Bridge is 'Off'.

Re-apply UV mapping.
No way to prevent it, booleans always disrupt UV maps/ textures anyway.
Should be fairly simple, just apply cylindrical UV map to rounded areas, planar to flat ends.
