The so-called Libraries are just a cruel joke. Skip them and use the file menu. You have to specify what you are saving (scene, object, etc) It sounds like you are saving an object rather than the entire scene. I usually put my skies on UV mapped half spheres that I use to 'dome' over the entire scene.
Easier to deal with than planes.

One other method that you probably wouldn't use in this particular case is Boolean Union. Generally not reversible.

Object Panel is in the bottom of the stack in WS, or can be brought up by right clicking the Object Tool (cursor icon) Model side has the 'drop-down list' of all objects in the scene...a feature that's sorely lacking in Workspace. I guess they want you to use the Link Editor to select multiple objec...
