Animation on Model Side - How?

Post by RPSchmidt »

Hello folks! New to these forums and to trueSpace and in need of assistance.

This is rather a multi-part question, all focused on animation. I did a search in the forums, but the search terms were too broad with too many possible results, so hopefully this will narrow things down a bit.

1. I attempted to install YafaRay and the YafaRay TS plugin with little success. Everything was present and accounted for in the GUI, but when I attempted to render anything except the YafaRay Setup scene, it spat out a short-lived DOS screen and rendered nothing.

2. Which leads to question 2; I really despise the Workspace side, but I have little information on animating on the Model side, which is where I would rather do my animation and render. The help manual doesn't mention it at all.

3. Which leads to question 3; I set up an animation in Storyboard view. That animation works quite well on the Workspace side, but appears to have absolutely no effect on the Model side. When I try to render the animation out on the Model side, it renders... the same frame over and over again, with no animation.

So; does the Story animation timeline have no effect on the model side at all? If not, where do I need to do the animation on the model side to get an animation?

If there is a good tutorial on this, I would appreciate a link!

Thanks in advance for advice!

I have no experience with the workspace side - i still use tS 6.6.

Anyway. The confusing thing is that caligari has puttet the old TS Version (6.6) as the so called "Modeler Side" into trueSpace. The "new" trueSpace is the "WorkSpace" side. This sounds confusing because they are also connected to a bridge. BUT: not all things are connected. I.e. animations with bones in the workspace are not playable in the Modeler and visavi.

So if you want to create animations the best way is: stay in one side - in the most cases the side where you want (or have) to render your animation.

For "Modeler side" i prefer the MotionStudio PlugIn if i need bones because the internal bone system is total f**k**g and crahses all the way.

...not all answer's but i hope it helps a bit.
I still use TrueSpace 6.6

Steinie hit it right on most parts, but there are a lot of things that will transfer throught he Bridge.

When you started rendering the animation in Modelside, did you make sure you seleted the drop down for Workspace animation in the render options?

The only thing I could not get to carry accross the bridge were the bones. So you have a couple options if you are trying to render bones from workspace.
1.REdo the bones on modelside and redo the entire animation.
2. Learn more about yafaray and render it on workspace with that renderer (the does wind that pops up is what is suppose to happen in renders in the background so you can continue working. Output should be TGA file somewhere)
3. Render with the Real time render. Use an image sequence and then combine the images with something like VirtuaDub (free)

Thanks for the replies folks; I see what you are saying.

I think I figured it out. I knew the Scene Editor on the Model side was responsible for setting key frames, etc., but I didn't understand the navigation of the timeline. It was baffling me that I was stuck staring at just 6 frames.

Going to experiment a bit more with the Scene Editor and see if I can figure this out.

Okay, just an update; I successfully learned enough in the Scene Editor to do my Model side animation.

Another question along the same lines; does the model side not use the Postprocess settings in the Setting panel? Because in the Workspace, the Bloom, Glow, etc., are very apparent, but on the model side they aren't, even after rendering.

I guess I just don't understand what the rationale was behind separating processes between two different areas, rather than incorporating everything into one area. As much as possible, I would prefer to see everything that is happening at one time.

That is one of the biggest issues with TS is the split between the two.

The post processing settings in workspace have no impact on the model side render. It is best to try and think of the two sides of TS as two seperate programs that allow for some cross over.
