How can I make a scratch metal, a white sand and a blue cloth turn into green, brown, red?

Unfortunately i dont have a huge amount of experience with either program just yet, but i may be able to point you in the right direction.

I am assuming you wish to change the overall colour of a texture image? if so, then the simplest way to do this is to adjust the hue and saturation of the image(s) in question. It's not brilliant, but it can usually give satisfactory results.

So go ahead and open one of your images, make sure it is selected (or the portion you wish to change) and then find the hue/saturation panel, and adjust as needed.

P.S: for metal textures in particular it can often be usefull to make a copy of the original and convert it to grayscale, this way you dont get the original colours interfering with your desired output (if that makes sense?)

Sorry i cant be more specific, as i said i dont have much experience with either program mentioned just yet - but hopefully this will at least point you in a usefull direction

There is a command thats called replace color its very similar to tghe normalsaturation command but was made for exactly that purpose !

Thanks Jason, you just described the the replace tool.
RAYMAN thanks for the tutorial, the only problem is that I don't know how to change the color, I enter in the replace color tool but I just can make it lighter or darker, so I need help. I use Photoshop 7, here is a image of the process (I made the metal a little darker).

If you want to apply a colour to the entire image you could also use the colorize tool in the Gimp. Select colour from the main menu and then colorize. You then use the hue, saturation and lightness tools to get most of the effects you are looking for ....

If i want to make something lighter and darker I use the strg L command and tweak the histogram.
But if you want to colorize you have to turn the saturation way up and use the hue to get your color.
If something is grey in the first place use the strg B command and dial in thed color.....

Easiest one I know of is to add an overlay with teh color you want to see and set it's opacity from 60-80%. This will add the color and allow the image below to seep through.

For modifying the color of the metal texture i would use the curves. But you need to know some color theory

In Photoshop Image > Adjust > Curves:

Select a channel and play.

You were not able to play with hue before, becouse you had a neutral color.

Do this and then you will be able to play with hue and saturation.

Tech (geek)

note: Hue is a plolar coordinate. Gray, black and white has a value of 0. You cant rotate a vector in polar cordinates with a value of 0. If you unbalance a neutral gray, then this vector is not longer 0, you do have a value, that can be rotated.
