ATI 2600 Pro and OpenGL support
A few months ago I installed an ATI 2600 Pro AGP video card, and could not get it working
with Blender. Blender requires OpenGL support. I ended up removing it because I could not
get it to work.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to try again.
thanks!

Re: ATI 2600 Pro and OpenGL support
Have they updated the driver since your last attempt? Or updated Blender? Generally it will take one or the other for it to work correctly. Either the driver gets better based on a lot of people who purchased the item getting uset it is not working correctly on their favorite programs. Or Blender adding the support for a different card. Generally it will be the video card manufacturer that caves, since they don't want people returning their cards.

Re: ATI 2600 Pro and OpenGL support
thanks Karthogen, I'll have to check the driver updates again.
At the time, there were numerous reports of the same problem
with that card. This was in early July 2009. The latest drivers had
the problem; I tried the earlier drivers, no luck.

Looks like they posted a new catalyst driver on AMD's site for the ATI cards on 09/11/2009
may be worth giving it a try.

There were problems with Blender and all sorts of ATI cards at one stage, but I think this may have been fixed with the latest catalyst drivers. Not sure about the 2600pro exactly, but it's definitely worth a try.

Re: ATI 2600 Pro and OpenGL support
Here's a thread with some users having similar issues. It's a bit old, but maybe it will help. It appears there were some issues with opengl drivers in some versions of catalyst. I did read once that ati were deliberately crippling their lower end/ gaming cards so that they wouldn't compete with the firegl and such, but that could be bs.

Froo, make sure you get the special AGP drivers for that card. The regular drivers from ATI site will not work if at all for 3d. You shouldn't have any OpenGL issues with the right drivers. Use the AGPHotfix driver instead. Uninstall your current driver and install one of these.

Thanks noko.
Did you use this card with Blender by any chance, or other apps which use OpenGL?
I cannot remember if I installed one of these drivers or not; I will try again then.
Now, this also means I will need to take down the trueServe app, so I will have to
plan a good time. I may end up doing this once we get to Colorado, since the computer
will already be off anyways.

Re: ATI 2600 Pro and OpenGL support
How is this working out? Any success? I didn't use blender but did use Daz Studio which is an OpenGL environment which I didn't have any issues at all with. That card is rather powerfull as a note more then I expected but you have to use the Hotfix drivers for any kind of 3d acceleration.

Re: ATI 2600 Pro and OpenGL support
Hi noko; I have not installed it yet;
but I have an opportune time to do it now, since my hard drive is toast.
I have a new drive on the way; should be here Monday.
I am running on a 6 GB hard drive only at the moment here; just to get by.
But hey at least it works!

Heh, I feel your pain somewhat. I just set up a new cheap-ass dual core pc (it's great to finally enter the world of 2005) and had to use an old 20 gig drive for windows. It was only supposed to be temporary, but it's working surprisingly well.

Re: ATI 2600 Pro and OpenGL support
Heh wow. I am so jealous!
I am still creaking along on a single shooter myself;
had a inkjet printer which sucked; traded that in for a color laserjet Sunday.
Gotta hook that up.
Our other b/w laser printer predates XP, so once the toner runs out we'll be
getting rid of that too.
Will be installing the new hard drive tonight; finally showed up. With that,
getting .NET 2.0 installed so I can then install the ATI hotfix.
Ok. Gettin ready to shut er down.
