Truespace 7.6.1 and Primal Particles FX Help Please

Post by RPSchmidt »

Hello folks.. first post, and of course, looking for help.

Trying to follow some tutorials for particle creation using PPFX; unfortunately, no matter how I install it, it doesn't show up in Truespace.

Now, I haven't used it before, but I assumed it would be a drop down in the same place as True Particles. Regardless, if it has installed correctly at any time, I can't find it anywhere in the interface.

So, following tutorials that begin with "Open PPFX and select "Create a new emitter" are problematic!

Anyone give me any suggestions on how to install PPFX for use in Truespace 7.6.1?

Thanks!

Hi RPSchmidt. Welcome to the forums! :bananacheers:

You have to use PPFX on the Model side of trueSpace, not the newer, Workspace side. Model side is essentially 6.6 with additional updates.

You switch to Model side by clicking the Model tab in the top portion of the interface. Once you do, you have to load the PFPX plugin, using the plugin icon. The plugin icon looks like a power outlet, in the lower portion of the Model side interface.

You click the plugin icon, then navigate to the folder in which PPFX is located. Once there, you double click the PPFX plugin file. This has either a dll extension, or tsx extension.

Once you do this, and click OK, you should see the ppfx icon added to the toolbar. Click that, and you're ready to go.

HTH!

Thank you very much, Froo!

I was on the Model side (don't really work in the Workspace side; haven't yet understood why they are separate) but simply did not know how to get the PPFX plugin into the GUI.

Once I did, it was like "duh!"

Thanks again!

Don't worry, I've been using truespace for a few years now and had trouble installing a plugin in modeler (I didn't know you could load dll's as well as tsx). That one had me reaching for the scotch a couple of times.

Truespace is an easy program to use, but is deceptively tricky to learn, especially with it's dual identity's. I still love it.... :bananadevil:

glad you got it working rpschmidt!

Long story short,
Model side is 6.6. Workspace (WS) side is 7.61.
They communicate via the 'Bridge'. You can pass data back and forth, though results may vary.
Caligari chose this route since the interface of the WS side is so different from the Model side.
Most people were familiar with the 6.6 interface. WS side took a very long time to develop,
and it was never finished. Though it is still powerful. Some of us have made plugins for the workspace side,
though development has been slow. But the ability to make more is there.
