Poly Count

Post by LeonRegis »

Which is the poly count limit of TS and other soft? I plan to do a colossal scene (It's really big), and I think that it will extrapolate the limit of many softs, so I will need to do some changing scene buttons to fix it. Will be focused for the FPN.

Thanks in Advance

Definitive answer: Not a clue

But jut as a warning, your PC will break before the software does, those crashes to do with overloading TS are more to do with your PCs power rather than the programs

This is impossible to answer because it depends on your PC, the amount of RAM you have, how many program you run at the same time, your CPU speed and so on.
One thing is sure - it will crash when you pass 2 Gb of data in scene since TS can't allocate more than 2 Gb of ram due to being a win32 application.

Its more related to the software then you think its is.
Truespace is one of the not all to good at that.
The main problem is the size of the objects and its polycount.
Be prepared to run into problems with objects over 400 000 polys.
Luuv quits over that size.......
You can load more into workspace and have a few of these objects inside workspace.
But the main problem is lack of instancing.
Thats what my threads about workflow and Vue and ecosystems is all about.
Thats also why i used kerkythea all the time because it allowed to use insatncing and even instancing with
components from Sketchup.... !But Kerky isnt made for animation while Thea will be...

Instancing? Do you mean object instancing?
I ought to research that.

Thanks Peter...
So I think that I'll need to use scripts to change scenes when reaching the border in the FPN, it is possible?

Thanks Again

PS: I want to know about instancing also.

A few programs allow for object instancing and some rendert engines like kerky and thea will do.
They dont regard repeating the same model as a new one but just handle them as a copy.
That saves a lot of memory. i can go up to many billion polys that way like hundreds of trees etc.
yes even animated people..... flocks of birds or grass or whatever..
