First, make sure you are in the Link Editor and have selected the actual material in there. Then open your Stack Library and in there open the Library which is called "Materials-DX9"

In that library, rightclick on an EMPTY space anywhere around the existing DX9 Material icons.

A menu will pop up. On that menu hover your mouse over "Insert As"

Another menu will pop up

on that menu select the following entry (see picture below)

that will insert a new icon for your new material into your DX9 materials Library, and afterward you can (and should) right click that new icon and rename the material to some name you will understand in the future when you are searching for that particular material. Your library will grow FAST, so that is a good habit to get into from the start. :D
