I'm using a material rectangle to display some letters in my pen! Applying it on cylinder that is empty inside by a boolean operation (I use a boolean operation to make the center of the pen, that can be viewed in the Simple Things, Beautiful Works topic) now when I make the rectangle two rectangles are created one inside and other where I want (the external plastic area) so when I put the material that I want he is displayed inside too and to contrary, and it's a problem. Can anyone help me? I just want one material rectangle not two and want it on the extern area and not inside.
Hope you understand, Thanks in Advance

Re: Material Rectangle Problem
When I make an object transparent and hollow, I do not use booleans. I prefer to create a second object inside. It is easier to work with transparency and refraction on two separate object and checking the refflets inside and outside as you want (often different). For the render, I flip all the normal inner object as would the boolean tool and the result is the SAME (truespace is not a volumetric soft as most of 3d soft, it is not for CAD). In this way you will have no problem of material. You can change the shader, the size of the inner objet, you can have an interior who don't cast shadow and avoid to use transparent shadow to win time to render, etc....

Re: Material Rectangle Problem
Interesting your point marcel, may I'll use this method for now, but I think that it isn't works with my pen... Between the plastic center and the tube with the tint I got an empty area and I think the only way to do empty areas is with booleans, or other method but not yours... Or your method can do empty areas too? Thanks marcel

Re: Material Rectangle Problem
You are wrong. As i said Truespace is not a volumetric cad! One object inside another have the same result for rendering as a booleen object. Truspace as most of soft is a surfacic tool. That mean object are represented with his surface not with his volume. i am not sure you see the difference.
For your pen you need 3 cylinders. One for the outside, one for the inside and one for the ink. The inside cylinders need to have the normal flipped. I think "my method work" because i use it for the perfume bottle since many years.

I understand and will test, may I'll use your method hereafter... And thanks very much for sharing this information with!

Re: Material Rectangle Problem
Thanks for that info Marcel. I might use that technique some time.
Leon, another way to make hollow tubes is to make a 2d shape that is the cross section of the tube. Say it is a circle for this. Make a circle for the outside then make another circle for the inside. Boolean subtract the inner from the outer. Then sweep that shape into a tube. Be careful how you make the circles or they will have very many unnecessary vertices.
I'm interested too if anyone can overcome the double decal problem for the material rectangles.

Re: Material Rectangle Problem
I resolve the Material Rectangle Problem using another cyder identical but with no holes and turned it totally transparent and then used the material rectangle normally... It's a little complicated and inconvenient but works as I want, if anyone could resolve this as a normal way, please post...
Thanks Finis for this other way too...

Re: Material Rectangle Problem
Here is what i said. At left i use 2 objects. inside and outside can have different shader. At right i use booleans and it is not useful for texture on the tube. you can see the render is the same for both. and you can edit inside and outside separately. For a bottle i can change the color inside to simulate the perfume or cognac, etc..
